I create landscapes that are personal, timeless, and deeply connected to their surroundings and the people who inhabit them.

My aim is to create outdoor spaces where people want to spend time throughout the year, while nature flourishes alongside them. I strive to create landscapes that feel as though they have always belonged to a place. Drawing on my horticultural and culinary training, I like to use naturalistic planting, edible landscapes and ecological principles to create diverse lanscapes, full of life and beauty.

I endeavour to respond to each site and its particular character rather than imposing a style upon it. Reusing existing materials, recycling and sourcing reclaimed and locally wherever possible are fundamental to my design process, helping to create landscapes that make thoughtful use of the resources already available.

Planting is approached with the same consideration. Our climate is changing rapidly, with hotter, drier summers alongside milder, wetter and increasingly stormy winters. Plants that have traditionally thrived in the UK may not necessarily flourish under these changing conditions. I am interested in researching and experimenting with planting that is resilient and able to adapt. We cannot know precisely what our climate will look like in the years ahead, but I aim to create diverse planting communities with the best possible chance of surviving, adapting and thriving in our increasingly unpredictable climate.

About Rosanna Philippe

Rosanna Philippe, garden designer and horticulturalist, founder of Studio Philippe.

I am an Ealing based garden designer and graduate of the London College of Garden Design at Kew Gardens, with the RHS Level 2 Certificate in Principles of Plant Growth & Development. I work across West London and beyond.

My connection to the land began on the wild West Coast of New Zealand. Surrounded by lush native bush, dramatic weather, and windswept, driftwood-strewn beaches, I developed an early appreciation for landscapes that feel inseparable from their surroundings. That upbringing, together with the classic Kiwi “can-do” attitude and No. 8 wire resourcefulness, continues to shape both my design philosophy and my problem solving strategies.

My approach to landscape design has also been profoundly influenced by a two decade career in hospitality. Beginning as a chef before progressing into senior leadership within the global luxury hospitality industry, my time in hospitality has instilled in me a lasting appreciation for craftsmanship, precision and attention to detail.

Today, I bring together that experience with a passion for horticulture and ecological design to create landscapes that are enduring and deeply rooted in their context. My work celebrates the relationship between people, plants, and place to create landscapes that enrich everyday life and become more meaningful with time.
